The Brain Tumor Center fosters collaboration between Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's clinical and research arms. This is achieved by generating basic science and preclinical research on primary brain tumors and metastatic tumors to the brain, and in turn, promoting the translation of this research into clinical trials.

Work undertaken through the Brain Tumor Center builds on initiatives already underway at Memorial Hospital and Sloan-Kettering Institute, including research that offers promising new leads in understanding the basic biology of diseases such as glioblastoma.

The Center's work includes collaboration with our institutional partners, The Rockefeller University and Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

In this section, you can find information about our Brain Tumor Center, our mission, and our research.

  • Mission & Scope
Research underway at our Brain Tumor Center is composed of four parts: basic science, preclinical cancer biology, translational studies, and clinical studies.
  • Projects
The key to future progress in brain tumor treatment is to learn more about molecular and cellular properties that drive tumor development and growth. This knowledge can then be applied to create novel targeted therapies that destroy cancer cells while sparing nearby healthy tissues.
  • Faculty
A list of the members of the Brain Tumor Center faculty.
  • Grant Winners
The Brain Tumor Center annually funds the top research proposals submitted by Memorial Sloan-Kettering's faculty who are conducting brain tumor-related clinical and/or basic science research.
  • Medical Student Summer Fellowship
A list of the 2008 Brain Tumor Center Summer Medical Student Summer Internship Award winners and projects.
  • 2008 Retreat
The Brain Tumor Center (BTC) at Memorial Sloan-Kettering held its first annual retreat on May 16, 2008, at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in downtown New York City. This was the first opportunity for all of the clinical and research groups with an interest in brain tumors to come together and look for areas of collaboration.
